Kaitlyn's Birthday Cookies

So I realize I dropped the ball yesterday, only a day after I said my goal was to post every day...   I do have a good excuse though... haha I was baking cookies. BIG shocker there! I was also at work for the rest of the day (making money to make more cookies). So far today I've been finishing up the cookies I baked yesterday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAITLYN!!!

I wasn't really sure what to do with the butterflies and flowers so I thought polka dots would be cute and would solve the laziness I have to not want to dye anymore icing...

then there are crowns... Since I had the purple & blue left over from the cupcake cookies as well as the pink and green for the polka dots I thought I might as well use the colors to make "jewels" on the crown.

Of course I thought of the pearl sprinkles I have in my baking cabinet AFTER the icing had dried so I had to go back & put more icing on the top so the sprinkles would stick... so they are raised up a lot more than they should be... Oh well, first time making them so mistakes are okay...

As I finished taking the pictures and went to put the cookies away 3 of them slid off the tray, fell on the floor and broke...  :(  Oh well, at least I got pictures of them before they broke...

More Birthday Cookies

As I dropped off the cookies where I work for my friend/co-workers's son's birthday (the monster truck cookies) my boss lets me know she wants 3 dozen cookies for her granddaughter's birthday. She told me her granddaughter was having a "hippie-ish" party... with tie-dye, peace signs and all that "jazz." Anyway, I immediately begin coming up with ideas in my head and know that if I want to pull them off right I will need to experiment first. So, I make the first batch of tie-dye cookies and they turn out much better than I ever expected (since my expectations were of them coming out brown bc the colors mixed together).

I threw the daisy in for "funzies" and made a few extra but they didn't all fit in the picture. Because I practiced making them before I made the actual order I conjured up a few things that would make the tie-dye process a little easier, so I used some squirt bottles for candy making (the ones you put melted chocolate in & things of that nature). And the end result was this:

The colors were a little different from the first time but I think they still looked amazing. I also added a few daisies, smiley faces and peace signs to make it make "hippie-ish"

And there you have it... I am trying to update daily at least while I'm out of school for the summer... We'll see how long that lasts... Thanks for reading!

My friends birthday is this week and one thing I'm doing for her is making her a few cookies. (Kaitlyn if you read this... Happy Birthday! and you now know ahead of time! haha!) Since I'll only be making a few for her that leaves the leftover dough for experimentation! LOVE experimenting with extras... I get to use my creative genuis instead of someone placing an order. I want to do something I have yet accomplished in the cookie realm... I was thinking about trying to make some gender reveal cookies. I saw some pretty cool ones on interest last night but I think I may mix it up a little bit from the way they did theirs. Here is the link since I didn't want to upload her picture without permission.

Now that I have completely strayed from talking about birthdays... I thought I would go back to talking about them since that's how my overly ADD & ADHD brain works.

Monster Truck Birthday Cookies:

Some of the coolest cookies I think  have ever been given the amazing opportunity to make have been the Monster truck cookies for a friend/co-worker of mine whose son turned 4. Her son is obsessed with monster trucks and his two favorites are Grave Digger & TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Since I was a little short on time to make these I tried to keep the majority of the cookies simple. I as his mom and I talked about the cookies she said I didn't really have to do anything fancy and tires and checkered flags were good (since I would not have time to order a monster truck cookie cutter). My brain started cooking up something right away and I came up with the idea of having an "accent" cookie (probably not the official name for it... oh well) which would be his two favorite monster trucks. I had my first cookie tasting at work the same day that she wanted to pick these up so I enlisted an extra pair of hands... my mom. As I worked on the cookies for the tasting as well as the basic cookies for the birthday boy my mom worked on the monster trucks. I think they turned out amazing!

The Grave Digger

TMNT
The two of us got done around 1 a.m. but the end result was fantastic and i don't think we could have done a better job!

Brush Embroidery

I figured since I'm hopped up on all the caffeinated sweet tea I drank while I was at work I thought I would post tonight, since I probably won't be fallen asleep any time soon anyway... I thought I would start off with my most favored cookie (by me anyway). I absolutely LOVE making the brush embroidery cookies!

As I have come to learn that every cookie is unique, no two cookies will ever be the exact same this is what I think really makes these my favorites... because every time I make them the flowers always come out "the same" yet beautifully different. This is simply done by piping the icing on the cookie then, with a damp brush, sweeping the icing across the cookie. I must say I get a lot of inspiration from pinterest as well as from a few other blogs. I love to search pinterest for cookies... the usual as well as the abstract. Some of the cookies I find are so intricately detailed I don't know how someone could make a cookie like that. I guess that comes with lots and lots of time, practice, and an immense amount of patience! These cookies at first took quite bit of patience to get the hang of the right amount of "dampness" on the brush, but in the end they still turned out very well. My mom and I did my first round of these together for Mother's Day. As, always... feel free to comment below! I'd love to hear from you!

Cookies made to date

These are some of the cookies I have made over the course of this year... Later in the week I'll break it down in sections... I would do it tonight but seeing that it has taken me more time than I originally intended to set my blog up I will go into detail later. Feel free to comment at the bottom! Goodnight!
